Singa Chicken Rice

Went to go check out on a wardrobe we've been eyeing on in this Thompson furniture shop, but unfortunately they have yet to set it up, so we thought we would go another time. So then we decided to have a simple lunch nearby, which is in Singa Chicken Rice.

This be the signboard and entrance of the restaurant. Technically it had a lot of branches, but since we were in Bunut area, it is located just at the blocks of shophouses beside Hua Ho Bunut, about a block or two away from Le Apple. I've had eaten at the branch in downtown, and eaten at the branch within the food court in The Mall, so I'm curious as to how this branch would fare

This be the interior of the restaurant. Unlike the branch in town, which looked like a regular Chinese kopitiam style, this has more of a bit of class, though it does give off the Malay restaurant feel to it if you think about it

We ordered Teh-C Ping Special, which, I'm not sure if I've explained it, but I'll explain it again anyways, just in case; is a three-tier iced tea with milk and sugar, in which for this drink, they use Gula Melaka. Cool stuff

Before mixing

After mixing

Took this chance to order some kangkung belacan, due to reasons I've already mentioned time and time again. Yummy, nice and crunchy, just the way I like it

We waited for quite a long while for our order of chicken rice to come over, but apparently our waitress who took our order had the memory of a goldfish or something because it never came and she had to come over to us again to confirm what we had ordered, and when the food arrived, the chicken part that we specifically ordered was not what I asked for, but I was already bored of waiting for my food to be changed so I just took whatever they gave me and just let it off. No point making a big deal out of it; it would just be a waste of my time and energy

My hubby ordered roasted chicken with breast meat, but doesn't really look much of breast meat to us though...

I ordered steamed chicken drumstick, but mine looked more like breast meat than my hubby's should, so yeah...

The food is more or less the same as the previous branches, but service-wise, most probably I wouldn't recommend coming to this branch. Better yet, go for Thien Thien still. They're much better in terms of service and food quality

Charcoal Revisited

Here we are again, in Charcoal (apparently I have totally forgotten that I had a Saturday lunch date with my friends to eat here before I decided to suggest Charcoal as a birthday dinner celebration with my hubby, LOL!). As much as I didn't want to, the food here is just too good to pass up NOT to blog about.

I ordered this salmon salad with pineapple salsa sauce just to give it a try, since I've already tried the Caesar salad. The salmon tastes amazingly fresh, along with the lettuce, just like when I was eating the Caesar salad. I dare say the salmon actually tastes fresher than the sushi restaurant's version! LOL!

My friend ordered French onion soup and I stole a few sips from it. It tastes really flavourful, and the onion is just boiled to perfection of softness. I didn't try the bread though

My other friend ordered some sort of salad that had potato and cheese in it, and I gotta tell ya, while I love the potatoes, the cheesy covering is, well, cheesy! It's so cheesy, you can practically call a meal out of it since the cheese is what makes meals so filling

Speaking of cheese, my other friend even ordered some sort of lasagna, which, of course, has MOAR cheese! Gah! Poor her. It would be a waste not to finish it, since it's pricey stuff, but if she finish it, she would end up being too stuffed for the dinner later that night coz she and her family were invited for a dinner function. LOL!

I ordered Wagyu steak to try the whole meat for my own. It was just as awesome as the small piece I tried last time. Totally worth ordering it! I had french fries and coleslaw for side dishes

This be my friend's Wagyu steak as well and he ordered garlic bread and baked potatoes for side dishes

Our vegan (I know she's only vegetarian, but I just like calling her vegan. Sounds more exotic, lol!) friend joined us finally at last and ordered herself some salad as well, which is roasted vegetables or something with blueberry yogurt as dressing. Looks pretty good, but I didn't try. I still love my meat

She also ordered the main course that I have recommended which has something to do with spinach and risotto and whatnot (Dammit, I can't seem to remember dish names nowadays). It also looks bloody cheesy as well and she couldn't finish it after going through about 2 quarters of it

There you have it. Another revisit of Charcoal. I suppose I have enough protein intake from Charcoal to last me a whole month. LOL!

Excapade Teppanyaki

Went with my hubby to Bunut to go check out some wedding card samples so that we can have it printed and sent out before our wedding, and after that we went to have lunch nearby. Lo and behold, we found out there was an Excapade branch there and turns out it seems to specialize in teppanyaki! Definitely wouldn't miss a chance to blog it!

This be the entrance of the restaurant. It's, as I mentioned, situated in Bunut just a few miles away from the block where Payung Emas Enterprise (and the company who does our wedding cards) is situated.

This be the setting of the restaurant. It looks just all the other branches around the area, but the only difference was that there is an addition of the induction stove that serves as the place to get started with your teppanyaki and also shabu-shabu~! Yummy~!

Green tea galore, with another different teacup design. In fact it looks longer and taller than their usual branch teacups

Here be the infamous induction stove, in which it is not hot to the touch, so no worries on making teppanyaki out of your own hand, but sends off the same heat to heat up pots and pans. Too bad, we're on a lunch hour time limit, so we don't have enough time to do those teppanyaki or shabu-shabu cooking.

The usual sushi on the side, just this time we're ordering less than usual, so it's tamago sushi and salmon sushi, which tastes pretty much just like the main branch serves

Not sure what to order that would be done in a short lunch hour timeframe, so I decided to order salmon don instead

My hubby, for once, instead of ordering his usual, ordered teriyaki chicken instead, without the curry. Looks tasty, but I didn't get a chance to sample it since I was too enjoying my food

Overall, the food there is just as nice as the usual original branch, but what I would really love is to try their teppanyaki and shabu-shabu. So, next time, when I have the chance to come here again, I'd do another reprisal on it

PhongMun Restaurant

Had to run an errand as usual, so managed to secure a lunch date with my friend and he recommended this place called PhongMun Restaurant

This be the signboard and entrance of the restaurant. It's located within the downtown complex named Teck Guan Plaza where they sell DQ ice-cream at the ground floor, in which you have to take the elevator instead of the escalator to the first floor (or was it second?) because if you take the escalator, it'll lead you to some place else and you won't find it. Like some sort of a hidden floor or whatever. LOL!

This be some of the interiors and decors within the restaurant. It has a very authentic Chinese restaurant feel to it, almost like Lucky Restaurant, just a bit more posh, and the setting looks amazing. My friend suggested that this place should've been my wedding reception, but then again we've already booked the place and everything, so it's a bit of a last minute, or more like too late, to make any changes. Ah, too bad. It looked pretty suitable though

More trigger-happy moments on the stuff on our table

No Chinese-eating restaurant (OK, that just came out wrong) is complete without starting off with Chinese tea. Tastes alright, not too strong but not too bland either. Though I was hoping to have tea stalks in there because apparently if there are signs of standing upright tea stalks, it'll mean good luck for the day. I'm a bit of a sucker for superstition, sue me

I ordered kuey tiaw with egg and prawn, and it looks almost like those pataya rice, but with prawn and instead of rice, it's wet kuey tiaw. It tastes pretty interesting, and the prawns are quite fresh actually. It's almost like eating wa tan ho, just lesser seafood and the egg is, well, visible instead of as a sauce

My friend ordered pork chop with rice. It looks tasty, though I didn't try it. Something about that texture tells me it could be crunchy but sinfully oily at the same time somehow

My two-cents on this restaurant. My hubby was surprised to hear that this place still exists, but apparently it stood against the test of time, and has pretty satisfying meals, though I am curious as to how their dim sum tasted, but at the time, we didn't really have the craving or the need to try it. Maybe I will the next time I go there and who know, I might make a reprisal piece
