Food Zone

I had one of those rare lunch dates with my best friend (while "borrowing" his services as a driver for the price of treating him to lunch LOL), and since we were in the vicinity of where I needed to go to do my job paying the bills (damn, can't wait to get the driving license so I can drive and not depend on people so much), we decided to eat at Food Zone.

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It's within Yayasan Shopping Centre downtown and just opposite Nyonya Restaurant. Technically I've been here forever when I was still working downtown in Brudirect, but now that I have the camera for my birthday present, and I've never done a piece for this yet, it's a pretty good time to do it

This be the interior of the restaurant. A bit of a half-kopitiam-half-restaurant style, with nice simple table and chair design and all. It's one of those places where you can just go in without feeling that people are watching you because you're comfortable here, regardless what you wear

A display of dim sum that they are selling at the price between $2 to $5. Surprisingly, despite the fact that dim sum had always been Chinese-oriented food and exclusively for Chinese, the dim sums they sell here are halal, the green light for Muslim consumption

It was pretty cold, so we decided to sit outside and have outside dining instead. Apparently there were a number of people who shares our sentiments as well, though I couldn't help noticing a bit of increase in ang mo kia a.k.a. orang puteh a.k.a. foreigners LOL

This be my drink: Milo shake. Just felt like drinking something uber sweet, and I like the way they actually poured an overload of extra Milo powder on top of the drink. Reminds me of the time where I used to pop spoonfuls of Milo powder into my mouth when I was a kid or eat up chunks of solidified Milo at the bottom of the tin before throwing it out

This be my friend's drink: Pepsi. Personally I'm more of a Cola fan than a Pepsi fan, actually, which is probably a good thing that my interview with Kingston didn't work out because I would probably be fired the minute their spies find out I'm a Cola loyalist (apparently they have spies to see if their employees are drinking their supplied brand and not others, and they supply Pepsi). I took a picture of this out of a whim, actually, because I like the new design for the can

My friend ordered radish paste cakes as a side dish, which is part of the dim sum selection. I like the way that it takes almost like those fried kuay tiau and I like the way they literally smothered it with egg and tauge (bean sprouts) because, let's face it, I'm a tauge freak

I ordered dim sum as a side dish but forgot to take a picture of it, so settle for the aftermath carnage. It tastes pretty good, but I think Lucky Restaurant's dim sum tastes better. Maybe it's coz of the fact that it's not made of pork

This is what my friend ordered, which I can't for the life of me remember what name was it. It sounded like some sort of Thai dish. It looks very, very colourful and the seafood looked fresh, and when I tasted the sauce, it definitely had the amazing kick to it. Maybe I should order it one of these days

This is what I ordered: Kolo mee with wantan. Actually I wanted to order my favourite Tom Yam meehoon with tiger prawns because they have like the hugest, big-ass tiger prawns you've ever seen, but at such an affordable price. But they ran out of prawn, so I had to settle for this. Ah well, it tastes pretty good anyways, and I haven't had wantan in a while

So, fancy a little halal dim sum or looking for something nice and simple to eat that has pretty fast service and affordable dishes while you're downtown? I would definitely recommend here, being that I'm an old regular here. Trust me on this one. Regulars know best
