Restoran Aqil Shafiee

Here we are in our next restaurant, which is Restoran Aqil Shafiee. We were craving a little Thai food, and my friend was craving for this restaurant, so we decided to go ahead and get there.

This be the signboard and entrance of the restaurant. It is quite far down towards Jerudong, and apparently fairly new. Technically we've been here once (where the curry was so delicious, my friend drank it till the last drop LOL), but for the sake of this blog, we went here again.

This be the interior of the restaurant. It's got a nice feel to it, as it does not overload much on the Thai decor to authenticate its atmosphere, and the genuine theme of it all was that the workers are purely Thai and the songs that they play to accentuate the mood was Thai songs. It felt just nice: a Thai restaurant without too much of the makings of a Thai restaurant.

Aside the menu we got, we also get to see preview of our dishes via the pictures beyond the glass on the table. They all look rather delicious, but then again, pictures may not represent the real deal sometimes.

This is what my friend ordered: papaya salad. Basically it's a combination of raw vegetables like cucumber, long beans and cabbage, with the main ingredient being the raw sliced papaya mixed with a bit of tomato and cashew nuts. It's soaked in spicy peanut sauce with a hint of lemon and dashes of chili seeds, and the spiciness of the sauce is amplified by the sourness of the papaya, and that was totally off the roof in terms of spiciness. We were literally in tears and sweat when we both tried the salad and my friend drank four glasses of cold water and two glasses of pure ice. It was THAT spicy! LOL!

This is what I ordered: stir-fried kampung fish in basil and green pepper. The fish was really fresh, but the basil was a bit of an overload, so I pushed them aside. The pepper that they used were the fresh ones that had yet to be grounded to powder, so you can more or less feel the spiciness there, but it's not as spicy as the papaya salad.

All in all we had a very satisfying meal there. Though we ate it with an empty stomach, which ended up both of us having the warm, burning sensation in our guts. LOL! So if you're craving for Thai food that is really authentic and want to challenge your taste buds, go ahead and make the effort to travel down to Jerudong to have a blast.
