London Kebab

After my friend's sad ordeal at Restoran Anee Puri with the roast duck burger, he soon got hungry again, so I accompanied him to go across the street to eat at London Kebab for his craving of fish and chips

This be the signboard and the stand itself. We're not sure how many branches are there of London Kebab, but the ones we know are one all the way in Sengkurong (I think) and the one here in the Gadong Food Court.

Here's the fish and chips my friend ordered. I was already full, so I just got myself a drink and ate a few of his fries. Not sure whether it's because of the size of the plate or whatnot, but the portion actually felt bigger than the one we had in Sengkurong, and you can really taste that this fries was not one of those you buy in the supermarket frozen and fried, but home-made, though I dunno what kind of big-ass potato they bought to make such long huge ones

That's all we have about London Kebab at the moment. We might document this again if we go to the other branch

Restoran Anee Puri Sdn Bhd

My friend had read about the advertisement in the newspaper about this restaurant having roast duck burger, so we decided to come here with our other friend and his girlfriend and gave this place a shot.

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It's fairly new, being raved about its dim sum that is so fresh that if you order their har kau, you can really hear the Q-Q crunch as you bite onto the prawn. It's that fresh, but kinda pricey. It's situated in Gadong, right next to The Mall and beside UniTech and one of the most famous pirated CD/DVD shop in the block

This be the interior of the shop. It was set in more or less contemporary but slightly modern taste. It's got a really interesting lighting design in which they actually use dim sum baskets for the lights! LOL And their kitchen is one of those public kitchen where you can actually watch the cooks do their thing, and you can literally see the steam and the fire as they cook the food, making you anticipate more of your meal.

This place used to be green-themed and owned by another company who set up a great Western cuisine shop, but because of the high-class feel to it, it gave off the illusion that it was expensive and people shy away from it, whereas I went there once before this came out and the food was actually very affordable. It died and then became this.

This is what my other friend ordered: Roast duck rice. Looks like a small portion but it was actually pretty filling, well, according to him, that is

This is what my other friend's girlfriend ordered: Stir-fried wet noodles. Looks and smells very good, although not sure if it really tastes as good as it looks, even when the girlfriend claims to be so

This is what I ordered: stir-fried wet kuey tiaw Hong Kong style. It's almost like eating wa tan ho, but without the egg sauce and plenty of seafood and capsicums all over it. Tastes pretty good, nice and thick, a little bit salty in the edges, but still very good

And here is our legendary roast duck burger! LOL~! We were already given a bit of a warning when my friend ordered only this and the waitress said "Only this?" but we didn't know why she said that until it actually came. It was basically roast duck and cucumber slices wrapped in pau dough! It was considered a dim sum dish, not an ala carte dish that looks like a burger we had imagined it to be. My poor friend had to settle with this one while we were eating away at our ala carte meal. LOL! I totally feel bad for him

It's a pretty good place to have your good ol' Chinese cuisine, only if you're into the atmosphere itself, while the food was pretty much a-OK. So go ahead and give this a shot, but do not order the roast duck burger unless you're in for the dim sum meal~! XD

Capers Italian Pasta and Pizzaria

Wednesday was my friend's off day, so we took this opportunity to go on a buffet lunch, and what better way than to have buffet lunch in a high-classed Italian restaurant? For this blog, you are definitely in for a treat, so make sure you have already had your meal before reading this because you will have drooling hazards! XD

This be the signboard and the entrance to Capers, which is just next door to Le Taj Restaurant. They don't have a signboard outside the building, so this will have to do. This used to be a Japanese restaurant called Chopstix (which I think tastes so much better than Excapade), but it went bankrupt so then it was replaced with this.

This be the inner signboard of Capers, which my friend suddenly had the urge to photograph.

This be the interior of the restaurant. They have a counter for serving drinks and then there are window view seats just like in Le Taj. When we went in, there was already a group of teens there eating, probably to celebrate the coming school hols. And while we were waiting to be served, MJ audio mix songs were playing in the background. LOL!

This be the menu. It is arranged in a way where they're following the style of Italians eating, the prima and secondary or whatever it was called. According to my friend, basically Italians eat a more or less 2 major meal course, first one being mostly pizza, then the second one would be mostly pasta. In fact, Italians have been known to eat a lot. I dunno about breakfast, but they eat lunch all the way till near dinner, then go out to bars where they order a drink and have some munchies from a buffet table, then after that they'll decided where to have dinner. My goodness! That's one heckuva gluttony! Either that or maybe because Italian families and friends are usually big in groups and everyone is technically eating a small portion of everything

Since we went for the buffet, it's basically we can order anything we want, as long as it is pizza and pasta (not ala carte meals), and we can choose whether to eat in small portion or in full-size portion. Definitely we chose small portion since we need the stomach to fill it in. Below is what we ordered:

Lasagna. Nice, cheesy, chewy, Garfield would definitely love it, especially the cheesy goodness
Fettucini with cheese and bacon strips, I think. Technically we didn't order that, and probably the waiter who took our order heard it wrong, but what the hey, we just ate it anyways, and wow, that is really some cheese~!

Hearty Char pizza and another pizza that had something like 4 kinds of cheese in it, I think. You can literally taste the blue cheese and have fun with pulling strings of cheese along with it as you take a slice of nice warm pizza. It's in small portion, of course, and it's kinda crispy. More like eating a piece of pie than a piece of pizza

Fettucini with baby clams and seafood. The clams were really baby; the size of the meat was small, but it still tastes good, as the seafood, you can tell it's fresh and not the one that you have to defrost forever to cook

Spaghetti Mia, with cheese and tomato sauce and all the works, oh, and a hint of basil as well. Could taste that because I've tasted it before on my food when we were at Aqil Shafiee

The Italian Job pizza, which pretty much explains it. Though my friend said that adding pineapples on pizza was actually an American invention, and a true Italian hates pineapples on their pizza. For me, I hate the olives. I don't like them, so I gave it all to my friend
Ravioli, which basically looks like mini dumplings drowned in tomato sauce, and it even had fillings in it, which taste pretty good. But small portion is really small. Only 3 pieces of ravioli, not exactly enough for everyone

Talleghatti (sp?) with salmon, which is basically green fetuccini with cheese and nice fresh salmon, though eating it makes us think of Japanese, because it really has that fresh Japanese salmon taste to it

There you have it. I hope you didn't dehydrate from drooling! XD When we made our last order, the waiter was like confirming whether it's our last order, seemingly wanting to get rid of us. But can't blame them, it was almost the end of buffet lunch anyways. So if you wanna have a high-classed buffet, go ahead and give this a shot. It's only $14.90 for adults and $7.50 for children, though it starts at 10am and ends at 2.30pm, so be there in time to enjoy it ^^

Golden Leaf Coffee House

We went to get my marriage certificate on Tuesday, but it was not ready, so we went to have lunch nearby the same place where Lucky Restaurant was, called Golden Leaf Coffee House.

This be the signboard of the shop. This place is technically very well-known for its bah kut teh, but since we were rushing for time coz my hubby's work, we settled for their Chinese fast food.

This be the interior of the shop. It looks almost exactly like the design of the ground floor at Lucky Restaurant with the hanging ducks and chickens and whatnot, and it sometimes reminds me of the coffee shops back in KK coz they were mostly of this nature

This is what we both ordered: char sau sau rou with rice. Taste pretty good, the meat is pretty tender and thick, and gives a nice chewy flavour to it, and along with the sauce on the rice, it was the perfect combination. Plus their complimentary corn soup was just as good.

Great place to eat for bah kut teh (which I might blog about it next time), but if you want Chinese food that is almost equal to Lucky, you can give this a shot

Lucky Restaurant

Here I am with another installment of food blog entries. This week we'll start off with Lucky Restaurant

This be the sign board of the restaurant. This is one of the few non-Halal, pure Chinese restaurants that actually sell pork. It's located at the area on the way to the High Court (where I got legally married ^_^), in an area where it looked like time stood still and we're probably still in the '70s or something. Apparently they say this restaurant had been here forever and is very, very famous among the Chinese community.

They have the front entrance and the back entrance and since we parked the car at the back, we came in through the back entrance

This restaurant occupies two floors. This here is the ground floor where you more or less eat the usual kopitiam food, or the Chinese fast food like char sau sau rou with rice and stuff that can be prepared in less than 5 minutes

If you prefer to have the feel of fine dining and more air-con, the first floor is better. This be the interior of the first floor. There's even a stage there where you can host functions, wedding being one of them

We ordered chrysanthemum tea which you have to manually put sugar in it if you want the usual sweet taste, but can be drunken as it is. Very popular drink ordered among us, especially when it comes to eating dim sum

This is actually a pic I took last week after the event of my court wedding, but since there were so many people, there wasn't enough me time to take pictures of everything. But I had to take pictures of the dim sum, since you can only get this many dim sum early in the morning, and we usually go there in the afternoon

This is what my friend ordered: wa tan noodles (seafood wet noodles with egg sauce). Somehow they ended up giving him the crispy noodle instead, but my friend didn't mind, even though at that time he had a root canal. LOL

This is what I ordered: wa tan ho (seafood wet kuay tiau with egg sauce). One thing I like about their seafood here is that it's fresh and very springy (or very Q) and it feels and tastes enjoyable just chewing onto the texture of the squids and prawns in there. Yummy~!

So if you're in for very good Chinese food, including dim sum, this is the place to be
