The Library Cafe

Heard about this cafe since it was announced in Facebook for quite a while. Hearing quite a number of interesting rumours about the cafe and I was curious to find out, so I requested my hubby to drop me off there to kill time while our girl is at school. Introducing The Library Cafe.

Location: The newer area of Regent Square, or as most people call it, The New Kiulap

Menu of the day

Setting: Very homey design, cozy-looking with a Western flair

The place reminds me of the nice read-and-dine cafes in Japan I see in mags and TV and in Taiwan I used to see or pass by whenever I'm out in the town. Tons of nice shelves filled with books both fiction and non-fiction. Of course, since I'm heavily pregnant and need more cushioning on my seats, I chose the sofa seat which just so happen to have some Archie comics in one of the shelves I'm next to.

My order

Technically I also ordered a seafood pizza, but by the time I finished eating it, I realized that I didn't take a picture of it. While the food is quite delicious, they were definitely true to the rumours that it's WAY overpriced for a dessert that you can get about a couple dollars cheaper in other cafes, and the pizza didn't even do the price justice either as it was a 7-incher for $6++ Even the drink that you can usually get for $1++ in a supermarket costs $3++ here. And there is not much options to choose from as they only specialize in tea time snacks and not full-on lunch meals. The pizza was the only decent lunch meal they have served.

I have expected it to be pricey, and I correctly (sort of) assumed that we're basically paying for the services of using their books and tables and space instead of the actual food itself, but it was just a little too expensive for comfort though. But still, the atmosphere was right and you can actually relax and enjoy the peace and quiet while doing your reading and stuff, and I was actually able to get some of my freelance writing work done there. That's a plus.

If you want a nice quiet place to relax, study, read some books and enjoy a cuppa slowly to whittle the day and kill time, or to have a classy library experience with food and drinks, this might be the place for you, but if you're here for an actual decent meal, sadly you'll be disappointed, and come out a lot poorer on the wallet LOL

Overall rating: 6/10 for the food, 3/10 for the price, 8/10 for the atmosphere
