Nursyuhaidah Restaurant and Catering Services

As my friend and I haven't seen each other for a long time since I got a part-time job, I asked him out for lunch on Saturday yesterday, though I had to request it to be his treat because I'm still broke and have yet gotten my pay. So we went to somewhere in Serusop where he could afford the lunch.

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It's within Serusop area, and coincidentally opposite Easy Way where I had lunch with my hubby. LOL! Brunei really is a small world, innit? This restaurant sells Thai food, but you can tell from the name of the restaurant that it is run by a Malay

Le main entrance of the restaurant

This is the first thing you see when you enter the restaurant, as all Thai food restaurant usually has, though I see an overflow of lemons...

The drink fridge, which reminds me of spot checks and market surveys I have to do with my colleagues back when I was working with F&N back in KK

This is the interior of the restaurant in a nutshell. It doesn't really have the Thai feel to it, more like a typical Malay simple and clean restaurant, but it's no big, really. Customers were slightly booming in there, and among them were a few possibly college students, with a couple of Nigerian students within the group. I find the small corner at the end for extra guests to sit (pic of the tables behind my friend) kinda sad, since it's so lonely and isolated and so close to women's toilet, which is not exactly a good spot. LOL

Again, my friend ordered green curry with rice and Teh-C Ping. When his order arrived, I could literally smell the santan (coconut milk) emitting from the curry pot, showing that it definitely had an overdose of santan to make this curry. And it tastes really creamy and thick, almost like trying to drink Campbell's soup, with the curry spiciness in between. To be honest, the green curry in Jerudong tastes better. I find it cute though that they made the rice into a heart-shape. Shows that they've got effort

Of course, any respectable person who comes to a restaurant of a certain genre will order something familiar to see how they make their food. Thank goodness they've cut the prawn in half so that I don't have to peel it myself, but it's still a bit of a bitch to eat. The soup itself was not exactly spicy, and it's not sour either. In fact, it tasted sweet! This is something new. A sweet-tasting Tom Yam. Maybe they should try using some of those huge stack of lemons they have to make it sour, or be more generous with the lemon grass, but all in all, it's pretty interesting taste

I might not really recommend this restaurant if you're into really authentic Thai food, but if you're not too picky on authenticity, it might just be the place for you.

Teo Poi Hoon Foodstall

I'm going off to an interview at a new job spot, so before we went, my hubby and I went for lunch at somewhere near his workplace so that at the same time, I can print out my CV and resume.

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It's probably one of the longest-running restaurant residing within the Kiulap area. It used to start off with one stall, then expanded the size by using two lots, making it bigger for more people to dine in

This be the direction to the kitchen

This be the interior of the restaurant. Nice and cozy, and has every vibe of a Chinese restaurant especially with all the decors and the chairs they used around it, though it's still a level below the design in Shikai

Some of the decors that are around the area that I took while waiting for our order. I noticed that the waitress there seemed to be a little clueless in taking orders and had to lean down to see which one we were pointing at in the menu to see what we ordered. I suppose she's new

We ordered iced lemon (my hubby) and hot barley (mine), and both of them are sort of colour buddies~! XD Such a coincidence

The barley drowned in my cup

The lemon hovering in my hubby's drink

I ordered ladies' fingers with mince meat and rice. Ladies' fingers are my second favourite veggie next to kangkung. Some don't like it because of its slimy texture, but to me, that's what makes it so tasty, and the aftertaste you get when you bite onto their seeds is just addictive. Although the only beef I have about it is that the vegetables were still a little raw and tough to chew. Maybe they didn't cook it long enough, because it was supposed to be nice and soft (and oh-so-good slimy). The sauce itself is just nice and the portion is pretty big too. I dunno if it's true or not, but I heard that men are not encouraged to eat too much ladies' fingers because it has a component that boosts women's hormones or something like that. LOL!

My hubby ordered seafood and tofu with rice, and specifically requested it to be Japanese tofu. We both share the common love for Japanese tofu, though for a moment there when the order was done, it was given to the wrong person at the table next to us because she ordered something similar which was chicken and tofu. Then the waitresses just gathered there discussing like as if it was a big secret conference or something and looked at each other blurry before I decided to voice out and said it could be my hubby's order, which I was right. Turns out almost all of the waitresses there were new, coz technically we dont recognize either of them. I snitched one of the tofu and it tasted pretty good at just the right texture. Yummy~!

So fancy a Chinese restaurant with a long-running reputation within the area who is just as established as Lucky and as well decored as Shikai? Go here

Easy Way Tea & Cafe

Went off to have lunch with my hubby during lunch hour, and since we decided to eat somewhere nearby, we came here to Easy Way.

This be the signboard of the cafe. It's situated in Serusop area, I think a few bit miles off from the Serusop Hua Ho branch. They technically specialize in take-away smoothies and shakes, but they diversified to make more choices and eating in for extra income, I suppose

The main entrance of Easy Way

This be the interior of the cafe. As you can see, this is the students' favourite haunt when it comes to grabbing a quick drink fix, because it is situated opposite a high school of sorts. The stairs does not lead to an upstairs dining, so I assume it could be their own office or somewhat. By far, technically I've been here only once, and it was after a movie.

Their menu is nothing fanciful, just a huge piece of laminated A4 paper, and the food is old-school, but what I really like was the small little illustration at the corner of the menu. I dunno why, but I have a thing for vector art people. It just gives off that really retro pop culture feel to it

I ordered chocolate milkshake, while my hubby ordered jasmine tea. No idea what's so nice about jasmine tea. The last time I drank it, it tasted like burnt plastic. Blergh~!

My hubby ordered cornbeef fried rice, which is basically rice fried into a mesh together with cornbeef and nothing else, well, maybe a hint of eggs in between, that's about it. Just that singular cornbeef rice with no condiments or side dishes. It looks so alone in there.

I ordered fish and chips as usual, since I always like to sample the same menu in different places to see how they differ. They are definitely generous with the fries both amount and size-wise, and the coleslaw is fresh, cold and oh-so-coleslaw-tasty-good, and the fish was nice and crunchy on the outside, tender in the inside, though it's sad to see the crumbs coming off while you cut because that's the best part about eating fish and chips: the crunchy crumbs.

So looking for a place with no hassle of waiting in line or just fancy a smoothies or shake, come here, coz it's more or less worth it

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

After eating our birthday dinner at Nyonya, we've walked all the way to Coffee Bean to have my friend's so-called birthday cake (my treat, of course).

This be the signboard of the cafe. It's situated downtown just about 5 minutes walk from Yayasan, and a few meters away from being right gobsmack in the middle of Brunei, and it is just right beside De'Royale Cafe which is owned by my ex-boss. So two cafes head to head, but of course, nothing beats a good ol' international well-known cafe that's just as famous as Starbucks

The main entrance of the cafe

This be the interior of the cafe. One thing I see that Coffee Bean takes pride in is the way they stay true to their interior design just as all other branches and franchise does, so when you enter, you would straight away get the feel of Coffee Bean regardless of which branch you go to. Though the air-conditioning was a bit of an overkill. Brr~!

News and mags stand for leisure reading

The variety of cakes, cookies and muffins they have in Coffee Bean, though I know they tend to specialize in chocolate and cheesecakes

The assorted teas and coffees on sale, which is like...a bloody lot of choices! Can't even decide, especially when the packaging itself is really, really pretty

Mugs for sale, with a really retro vector-style artwork

A stand for sugar, napkins, spoons, forks and the like

Outside open-air dining, which is not exactly much room anyways XD

This be our order: Brew of the day, chocolate fudge cake and blueberry cheesecake.

We ordered a small portion for the Brew of the Day, but...well, you call that SMALL? Makes me wonder how does the regular or large portion look like. LOL! It's almost like we're drinking coffee from a bowl or something! XD My friend said the reason why they got huge hunkabaloo cups like this is because it's the only way to fit their cookies for dunking, as you can see on the top picture the size of it. My friend also said it feels like drinking classy kopi-O or something, LOL, and two packets of sugar is actually more than enough. It will have a bit of a bitter aftertaste, but it's a taste that will grow into you

Their chocolate fudge cake is impressive and sweet as usual, and I always try to leave the top frosting to the last, because that is the best part

I think I've only eating the blueberry cheescake once, and it looks pretty delicious too. Though since it's my friend's birthday, I let him have all of it while wishing him Happy 26th Birthday

Coffee Bean is no stranger to anyone, so those who have a craving for indulgence, feel free to go ahead and enjoy a cuppa~!
