Hot Point Cafe & Restaurant

After a bit of cloth-hunting with my gal pal to find prospective colours for the bridesmaid clothes, we decided to shop around in The Mall until we were a tad hungry and decided to give this new place a shot: Hot Point Cafe & Restaurant

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It's situated within The Mall in Gadong, and if I'm not mistaken, it's situated on the first floor at the corner side of the area. This would be my first time being in this restaurant since it opened a few months ago.

This be the flashy menu board outside the entrance. Lucky for me, I managed to capture it when it was still bright for that split second

This be the interior of the restaurant, equipped with outdoor dining at the balcony area that overlooks the district of Gadong. It does have that cafe kind of feel, a bit retro and not too high-class that would give off that sort of illusion. The waiters and waitresses noticed that I was taking photos and seemed to have whipped out their own cameras to take random pictures. Tsk, talk about kiasu~! The seats at the main dining area seemed to be arranged in a way that they have booked it for a function or something, which later on, we were right as someone is celebrating their birthday

This be my gal pal's drink, which is iced lemon tea. Interestingly that it was actually served in some sort of mug that looks almost like it is a cross-over between a jug and a jam jar. Or maybe it was a jam jar or some kind of jar recycled to be made as a drinking mug

Technically this was supposed to be my drink but it turned out to be a cooler dessert instead. I ordered cendol, and from where I come from, cendol is usually served in a cup like a smoothie, but here, they served it like an ABC, so yeah, I had to drink through a bowl instead of a cup. Meh~!

My gal pal ordered butter chicken with rice, and it looked really nice and creamy. She claimed that she had something Western during the day, so she was going for something Asian, while I was the other way round. LOL! She let me have the veggies that she didn't like and I can really taste the creamy butteriness of the sauce. Mmm~!

I ordered fish and chips, just as I always do when I sample Western cuisines in new areas. one thing was for sure: their fish was not one of those frozen in a packet kind, but the fresh one because I can tell from eating the fish alone. Fish from frozen packets would taste a little dry, while this is juicy and succulent. And their coleslaw was pretty fresh too, so fresh that I can still taste and smell the lingering onions on me!

There you have it. Hot Point. It's a good place to enjoy affordable cuisines in a cafe environment. Just nice. Worth a shot.

Cafe De-Paris

It was a really long night when me and my best friend/colleague finished a tender that was supposed to be handed in the next day, and we hadn't really eaten, so at about midnight, after we decided that the rest can be done tomorrow before the deadline time, we went to have ourselves a very, VERY late dinner (or supper) at Cafe De-Paris.

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It is situated in Gadong, within the block right behind Wecan Restaurant. I've been here a few time to have a drink or so, and probably once to eat after hiking, but this will be the first time I do a piece on them

This be the interior of the cafe. Despite it being called a 'cafe', it's no different than a coffee shop, really, though I do commend on the workers working so late at night to serve night-owls like us, LOL! Coz we noticed one of the workers there (or was it the boss) having red eyes from lack of sleep. And it's funny when they realized I was taking pictures and telling each other to stay still for my shooting. Heh, I'm just taking the scenery, pal.

These are our drinks: Ice kasturi and iced lemon tea. Despite it being rather cold, I decided to order something cold anyways, since it's better for me to stay awake to actually eat. Kasturi is basically Malay mini-limes that has a sweet and sour flavour, and added with sugar water and, for the Chinese, preserved sugar plums, you get a sweet and sour drink. Mine is mostly sweet coz it's to counter the uber sourness of lemons. Blergh~!

We ordered the same thing, so I only took the pics for my order, which is Wa Tan Ho (wet fried kuey tiaw in egg sauce), since we can't really think of anything to eat and that was the first thing that popped in our heads that is nice and warm to the belly. Maybe we were uber hungry, but the taste was divine, and the overflowing egg sauce (which literally overflowed past my plate) tasted just the way I've always liked my egg sauce to taste on Wa Tan Ho. Mmm...!

So if you fancy a little supper, for all you night owls, this would be a good place to be, since they seemed to not be under the curfew jurisdiction. LOL~! It's still cool to be here during the day, but it's something about it being at night that seemed perfect and appealing.

Z&C Restaurant & Catering Services

We decided to have some girls' day out during lunch hour and left to have lunch somewhere nearby our area again. After walking around for a while, we decided to eat here: Z&C Restaurant & Catering Services

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It's also in Kiarong, situated about two blocks away from K.N.Y. Kitchen and just about 5 minutes walk away from our office

This be the interior of the restaurant. Looks just like any typical Malay restaurant, but the one that really caught my eye was the clock on the side wall. It was a typical Smiley Face clock and it just look so cute~!

These are our drinks: Carrot juice (mine) and warm lemon tea (my colleague). It's been a while since I actually drank carrot juice. The last time I drank was probably way back when. LOL!

My colleague ordered Nasi Lemak. Looks pretty good, and the interesting thing was that usually nasi lemak only comes with the belacan (shrimp paste) sauce and egg and small fishes that I grew up eating, but in Brunei, their nasi lemak is comparable to nasi katok, as they included a piece of fried chicken in it. I was going to take a close-up picture when she turned the plate. Ack!

This is my order: Belacan meehoon. Tastes pretty good, though, again, not as spicy as I hoped (I'm a bit of a sucker for spiciness), and I'd like it if they gave me more bean sprouts. It's my fav veggie.

We ate in a bit of a rush because we had a tender to do, but overall, it was a satisfying meal. So those who fancy a little light Malay dining, this is a good place

K.N.Y. Kitchen

Now that I have settled in a new working environment, it is only natural that I sample the neighbourhood cuisines. So when my friends asked me out for lunch, I jumped to the chance to join them. So first stop: K.N.Y. Kitchen.

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It is just a 30 seconds walk from my office since it is actually directly across. It's situated in the Kiarong area which is across the highway road of the Jame Assr Mosque

This be the entrance of the restaurant

This be the interior of the restaurant. It's got a nice, quiet feel. Very simple and clean. Nothing fancy. Feels almost like a regular restaurant that serves a jack-of-all-trades cuisine if it weren't the fact that the signboard says it serves Thai cuisine. A few soccer memorablia hangs around the wall, signed, sealed and delivered. Makes me wonder if the autographs were authentic.

This be our drink: Iced lemon tea, warm milo and iced milk tea (I think). Just felt like getting something warm to drink since we're in an air-conditioned room

Close up of our drinks

This is what I ordered: Tom Yam Meehoon with Seafood. Everytime there is some new Thai restaurant I go to, I would always sample their trademark food just to see how good it is. Unfortunately, it was not as spicy as I had expected, but just a bit sourish in between. The third time I came here to eat, I actually had to request them to give me extra spicy to even get to the spiciness I wanted

My friend ordered sweet and sour kuay tiow, and it looks brightly coloured, especially the red and green pepper and the eggs and spring onion. I tried it and it tastes pretty good, although my friend is not exactly a veggie fan.

My good ol' pal who had been my hiking and eating buddy ordered his usual trademark food whenever he samples a new Thai restaurant: Green curry with rice. Sadly it wasn't served as all Thai restaurant do, with a separate claypot. It was just splashed a dash onto the plate of rice and the portion was quite little

Those who work in Kiarong area and fancy a Thai cuisine, this would be a good place to go to, though don't have your hopes too high on it being a high-quality authentic Thai cuisine. Just adequate.
