My Town Eating House

 Back again with more new foodies, and now that I've started work, I can sort of afford them. LOL. This time we will try something close to where I work, which is My Town Eating House.

Location: Batu Satu, where most of the Chinese restaurants like Sui Hing, Golden Leaf, Red Leaf and Lucky Restaurant are

Setting: Bistro food court kind of design, got a bit of rustic feel to it

The food there is pretty decent and the atmosphere is quite nice, not too cold, not too hot, and the slight rustic design is quite pleasing to the eye.

You can either order directly from the counter or you could take your time browsing through the menu at your seat and fill in the order sheet and bring it to the counter to keep from holding the line. Service is a little bit on the slow side, but it's nothing too big of a deal of as it's the usual type of slow when it's lunch rush hour, and the price is a little bit on the heavy side, but the taste is still worth the money. Despite that setback, it's still pretty recommendable to give it a try.

Balut

A balut (spelled standardized as balot) is a developing duck embryo that is boiled alive and eaten in the shell. It is commonly sold as streetfood in the Philippines. They are common food in countries in Southeast Asia, such as Laos (khai look ໄຂ່ລູກ in Lao), Cambodia (pong tia koon ពងទាកូន in Cambodian) and Vietnam (trứng vịt lộn or hột vịt lộn in Vietnamese). They are often served with beer. The Tagalog and Malay word balut means "wrapped".

My buddy shared it with us during group chat, so we got a first real look of how it looks like.

Uuurggghhh~ I wouldn't eat this even if you pay a gajillion dollars XP

Waroeng Penyet

Lunch hour time and I've always been dying to try this when it came out in Times Square, but since it opened a branch nearby my workplace, naturally I wanted to try it. Introducing: Waroeng Penyet!

Location: Batu Satu area, right opposite Plaza Athirah and also where Laksamana College is

Setting: Slightly open air, though looks slightly cramped as well due to the amount of space given for them to put their dining chairs and tables

I made a mistake in ordering the spicy sauce instead of their mild sauce, because it literally drove me to tears from the spiciness of the sauce. It got a real kick to it. The chicken is cooked not too bad either, and apparently they also sell ikan penyet as well, and also other non-penyet dishes, so that's good too.

UPDATE: I've been going a few times since then, trying the fish dishes, and they're cooked pretty well too. Rather delicious and satisfying, and I've been ordering their fish dishes ever since.

Gala Night Dinner

We had our dinner after the island trip at the hotel, and it was a bit of a disappointing atmosphere, since everyone was rushing to eat so that they can do some last minute shopping, as if shopping were a life and death situation for them. But the food is pretty good. Here's what we had:

Grilled prawn

Broiled broccoli and cauliflower

Steamed white rice

Stuffed rolls (forgot what was inside there)

Braised Snowfish

Some kind of chicken dish (forgot the name either)

Stuffed beef rolls

The portion that they cooked was a little too much for just us less than 20 people (and also because everyone was too keen on going shopping rather than eating), so we weren't able to finish everything. But the food is really delicious, especially the snow fish, and definitely especially the dessert

Lembungan Island BBQ

On the third day of our tour, we were at Pulau Lembungan on an island trip for a bit of R&R from all the touring. Of course, lunch time was also at the island, where it was a all-expense paid BBQ buffet lunch.

Even before the food was even done cooking, there were already a number of stragglers trying to find a line to get into to get the first serving, and when the food was completely done, it was a HUGE ASS line just waiting like carnivores in the zoo to be fed their meat of the day. I almost barely made it into the line and barely even grabbed the meat that I want coz they take their friggin' sweet time to pick and choose and stack their plates with their food. But overall, I survived the line and got my hoard.

The food was A+ and delicious as it should, but sadly by the time I'm done eating there is nothing much left for me choose from to eat, so for my second round I got me some chicken wings and prawn. Absolutely worth it.
