Mt. Batur

When we were brought to our lunch spot on the first day of tour, we went all the way up to a place facing Mt. Batur, one of Bali's famous active volcano, though the last time it erupted was in 1995. Here's how our lunch spot looked like:

Setting: Indoor and outdoor dining area with a view, and coz it's high altitude, you can feel the slight chill

Buffet style food, which mostly consist of a lot of grilled and fried food and also quite a number of curries and rendang (or was it kurma? Can't remember)

My hoard

Free one bottle of drinks, served in old school bottles that I thought no longer exists LOL (Coke is mine, Fanta Orange is my hubby's)

Maybe I was hungry due to the long trip up Mt. Batur, but the food is definitely delicious, and their vegetable fritters were absolutely yummy. I couldn't help horking down a lot of them during my second round. Even my hubs who is not a veggie lover ate quite a lot and loved it.

And there is also the great view, which is very hard to beat, so that's that. A little bit cold, but still awesome.

Hawaii Bali

Our dinner spot on the first day of tour was Hawaii Bali, where we were treated to authentic Balinese cuisine. Here's how it looks:

Location: Prolly somewhere around the Anyer Province area, there is a souvenir shop just right next door of the same name as well for people to shop after their meal

Stairways to food heaven

Setting: A slightly opened aired restaurant with the windows open and just a bit of fan for cooling here and there. Reminds me of a Middle Eastern type of restaurant, but with a hint of Hawaii

Le table

It's a full-course meal of Balinese cuisine, so we totally dug into that. Here's what we were served:

Some kind of peanut soto soup

Steamed white rice

Fried sambal prawn

Broiled broccoli with mushroom in black sauce

Deep fried cuttlefish

Sambal kangkung

Grilled chicken with spicy sauce

Pattaya egg omelet

The food tastes pretty good and familiar, since it's basically Asian dishes that we more or less can get back home, but they do have a twang of spice and acidity in it that makes it different from the rest. Love the kangkung and the egg omelet though. Those were amazing, and the soup tastes pretty unique. Who knew soto soup goes well with peanuts?

Sandekala

My hubs and I went on his company trip to Bali last week, and of course, we tasted some awesome local cuisines there. First off, lemme introduce our daily breakfast area within our hotel, which is called the Sandekala.

Location: Within The Best Hotel, center of Bali

Setting: Awesome open air dining where you can feel the cool morning wind and not worry about freezing to death with any sort of air-conditioning. All au naturale

Our breakfast is buffet style, so of course I took a lot of shots around the area to showcase the food they have.

Soto stand

Asian breakfast section, includes fried noodles, broiled chicken, mixed vegetables and Malay omelets

Western breakfast section, including the egg booth where you can order how your eggs needed to be cooked, cereal and bread with the jams involved

Plates and bowls for eating

The food here is pretty good, grade-A hotel food, though it would've been better if they didn't have the Asian breakfast, but then again there are locals here as well as people from other Asian countries who prefer to eat Asian breakfast, so it's cool.

New WK Restaurant

We were craving for a bit of dim sum for breakfast before we head off for our own personal vacation at a resort down in Kinarut, so my dad brought us to go have breakfast at a pretty familiar area.

Location: Around Jalan Bundusan, closer towards the Luyang area

This area is technically familiar to me because I used to go there during my dreaded piano lessons. Thank goodness I'm not learning piano anymore, though I kinda lost my ability to play with both hands now. I love playing the piano, but I don't like the rules that apply to it, unfortunately.

Setting: Very classy Chinese restaurant, befitting of places where dim sum is served

Our dim sum

It definitely has greater portion than the usual dim sum we eat back in Brunei, and we were practically stuffed by the time we were done eating. My princess loved it too, so much she made a mess on her baby chair! LOL

It's a good place to have some nice authentic Chinese dim sum, but it's slightly pricier than most dim sum restaurants around, so be prepared to burn a hole in your pocket for this one.
