Cheezbox Reprise

I decided to do a reprise on Cheezbox because the food served us was too hard to pass off without being blogged.

We went to watch Inception last week, and after the show, we decided to have a tea break and ate here. We got to meet up with my best friend's illusive fiance, and I hit off with her pretty well. We weren't sure what to order for tea, so we went for their set snack meals.

This is what I ordered: Cheescake that comes with the tea of my choice, in which I ordered the English breakfast tea. The cheesecake tastes pretty good, though the coffee was a bit of a surprise in the mix

This is what my hubby ordered: Pancakes with butter and tea of his choice, which he ordered the same tea as I did. I tried a bit of his pancake and it taste pretty good. Not burnt and not raw dough either. Just right.

My best friend ordered fried calamari in addition to his snack meal set, claiming that he hadn't had lunch. He must be hungry. It tastes pretty good, though I haven't eaten a lot to be sure.

This is the real snack meal set he ordered: Quiche with drink of his choice, though I kinda forgot what drink did he actually ordered. The portion is bloody small though, and it's smothered with side serving of olives! Not my fav veg XP

That's about it so far. Probably may have extra reprisal entries if the food is good enough

Nur Wanita Restaurant & Catering Services

I decided to venture out into the unknown all by my own during lunch hour and stumbled upon this restaurant, which had peaked my interest when I pass by it to have lunch elsewhere, so I gave it a shot. Introducing Nur Wanita Restaurant & Catering Services

This be the signboard and entrance of the restaurant. It's situated about two blocks from my workplace, within the Kiarong Complex area. This place apparently serves Northern Thai cuisines, which I have no idea if it were to be any different than usual Thai restaurants. So I gave it a shot

This be the interior of the restaurant. As all Bruneian restaurants do, they have air-conditioning that bloody hell freezes the gajeebus outta you. First thing you think of when you enter would be woody, coz everything in here is wood-coloured theme. There were a few Korean and Japanese people sitting tables away from me, which kinda intrigued me that this place attracts tourists more than locals. At least the music was authentic Thai songs. On your table, they actually use promotional posters as your food mat, which is probably a total waste of money, and when I checked the menu, the food served were way pricier than the usual Thai restaurants charge on the same food.

This is the drink I ordered: Iced Honey Lemon. I dunno what possessed me to order cold drinks in a cold restaurant, but I did. Tastes pretty good, though a little bit overboard with the honey.

This is what I ordered: Chicken rice. There's a proper name for it, but I forgot what was it called. I actually wanted to order something old-school like tom yam, but I figured I was in an appetite for something simple. I ordered it to be drumstick, and they actually made the effort to turn it boneless. But I'm not sure whether it was supposed to be that way, but it tastes kinda...dry, not like the juicy ones we usually eat, like in Thien Thien for example.

If you feel like eating Northern Thai cuisines, this could be the right place for you, but don't put too high of an expectation

Secret Recipe

Howdy everyone~! Another oh-so-few more good entries about the goodies I've been visiting and eating. Sorry if there has been such a lack of entries, coz real life has caught up with me and I never really have the time to go out there to actually enjoy eating like I used to. So, without further ado, let's just start with this restaurant: Secret Recipe!

This be the outside of Secret Recipe. Secret Recipe is actually a very long-standing cafe that is very bloody popular in the West Malaysia and owned and founded by a Malaysian as well. It made a foothold all over Asia including Singapore and Indonesia, and it had recently set foot a market here in Brunei sometime late last year. At the moment, we have two branches: one in Serusop area and one here within The Mall, Gadong on the 2nd floor

A delicious greeting in the entrance. Apparently according to sources, Secret Recipe had always started off as a cake and confectionary cafe, but after it got so popular, they decided to branch out and diversify their menu, and had won pretty lot of awards for their delicious cakes and main course menus, in which I agree, since I've tried their cakes before in Miri and they taste absolutely heavenly~!

This be the rest of the interior of the cafe. Simple and clean, a bit in the modern design with no clutter or hassle, and the red and black makes a perfect contrast.

This be their menu. The prices there, I must admit, is quite sky-rocketing, but it's worth the money when you actually tried their food. We ordered the cheapest set meal they have, which is about $15++ each, but it comes with soup of the day, drinks, main course and dessert, so it's pretty worth it.

This be our drinks: Apple-tizer and Grape-tizer, probably one of the best soft drinks I've ever drank. It has the really nice tangy taste without losing the flavour of the fruit and easy on the stomach as well, though the amount is quite little. I wish the bottle was bigger

This be the soup of the day, which is cream of mushroom soup. Which is really creamy, ftw! I like the garlic breadstick that came with it, and the soup is just too good to have any leftovers. We drank till the very satisfying last drop. Xd

This be the main course (detailed close-up pics on the above), which is lamb shanks. The meat is nice and tender, and the over-flowing sauce is just...over-flowingly yummy! XD It makes you feel like you just wanna clean out that bone of its every piece of meat! Xd I'm pretty curious as to how they are able to make the mash potatoes into that shape though, although the shape plus dirty thoughts come to mind... ^^;;

This be our dessert, which is chocolate brownie with pecan nuts. It's huge, it's thick, it's yummy and it just exactly every woman's indulgence~! The portion is pretty big too, to the point where even my hubby who is a big eater almost couldn't finish it. LOL!

So if you have a fat wallet (or just got your salary) and crave for a little bit of indulgence treats, Secret Recipe is definitely the right place because it is totally worth the money to splurge on!

Myown Restaurant

On recommendation from my best friend (after a job well done on the tender and stuff), we went to treat ourselves at this newly built restaurant, which is Myown Restaurant

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It's located uphill of Batu Bersurat, around the same block with Red Canopy Cafe and the Happy Star Enterprise. Parking was a bitch, but what the hey, as long as it leads to good food.

This be the front door of the restaurant. Notice the ornament on it? And also the chair and the decor bicycle? It's just too cute~! It really gives off the country cottage feel with them around, and gives you that curious yet warm fuzzy feeling when you enter.

This be the interior of the restaurant. Once inside, it was so intriguing that I could help but go on an all out camera trigger-happy mission to capture every detail. The lady-boss even thought I was a journalist and asked from which company am I representing. LOL! If you were impressed with the outside, wait till you get a load of the inside! It really gives off that nice, warm and fuzzy country cottage feeling when you enter, even though the ornaments and decors around was claimed by the lady-boss as secondhand stuff she got from her child's room. The tables and chairs were also custom-made because you couldn't get it anywhere here in Brunei.

This be their menu, which is pretty nice and simple. Mostly Western food, with a few Asian food here and there, but mostly catering to the basics of Western food, and apparently this is the only Western restaurant that actually is not accessible to Muslims because they serve pork.

This be our drinks: Brunei Sunset (mine) and Daydream (my friend's). Not exactly sure if our sunset in Brunei looks like that, but it's got a nice tangy taste, and so does Daydream, but his is more of a smoothie while mine is more of a liquid drink

This is what my friend ordered: beef club sandwich (or something like that, we couldn't remember the name). I took a piece to try from him and taste really juicy, especially the meat itself. Mm-mm! Nice, fresh and juicy, and the bread was one of those fresh-from-the-oven kind of taste, and it was a taste to die for. According to my friend, this is all home-made and self-baked, even the bread as well. Awesome!

This is what I ordered: Good Ol' Fish & Chips (yes, that is literally the name of it). The fish is really fresh and the outside is very crispy. You can tell the difference with defrosted packet fish and fresh fish by the texture, as fresh fish would be juicy while packet fish would be a bit dry and flat, and this is definitely farm fresh fish, figuratively speaking. And their fries tastes awesome as well!

I usually don't do this, but I went as far as going trigger-happy with the bathroom, because even the bathroom itself has that quaint cottage feel with the decors and curtains and all that. It's total awesome! Not to mention bloody clean as well!

This restaurant had just opened recently for 3 months, and according to the lady boss, there would be more renovations to come. But in the meantime, want to try something different in a whole new and interesting environment, give a shot to this place. Home made food in a classic cottage setting, what can be more original than that?
