5-Star Hainanese Chicken Rice & BBQ Pork

Giving a little random shot on where to eat, since we spent all day in City Mall, so the first place that caught our eye was 5 Star Hainanese Chicken Rice & BBQ Pork

Location: Outside City Mall, one of the blocks where restaurants are centred, ground floor

Setting: Typical Chinese (in this case Hainanese) kopitiam setting
Atmosphere: 8.5/10 (a really huge patronage despite being quite late in the night, way past usual dinner time and the tables were 2/3 full when we were there. We were lucky to be there a little early to grab the last seats)
Design: 7.5/10 (convenient, wide-open space, nice and simple)

Drinks: Chinese tea all round
Presentation: 5/10 (standard presentation)
Taste: 5/10 (standard taste)

Food: Half a steamed chicken, Japanese tofu, veggies and pork ribs with servings of rice
Presentation: 9/10 overall (absolutely delicious and appetizing-looking, makes my mouth water like crazy)
Taste: 9/10 overall (the chicken was tender and juicy, with the skin absolutely melting in your mouth, the tofu is cooked to perfection with the texture and taste that also melts in your mouth, the veggies fresh and crunchy and the pork ribs are gnawing-tastic!)

We had an absolutely satisfying meal here, and it is a joy to eat every last bit of the food. In fact my mom in law ended up helping the men finish up the whole lot! LOL! A super recommendable place to go to!

Garden Cafe

Going down to KK again for an early Chinese New Year celebration, since my in-laws are unable to get a work leave for the actual CNY, and we wanted to see my eldest bro-in-law's bro's newborn kid. So as usual, road trip again~!

Of course, our brunch place before we take on the super long road was at Garden Cafe. I didn't manage to make a piece the last time coz I was so damn sleepy, but now I finally manage to get it

Location: Wisma Limbang, Ground Floor, Limbang area, which is within the Sarawak border

Setting: Typical kopitiam setting style, which is a little odd as it's built within a supermarket. You usually see this in food court area, not alone within the supermarket area
Atmosphere: 8.5/10 (very good atmosphere and a very large patronage, making me wonder how much do these people earn a day)
Design: 7.5/10 (very true to a kopitiam design with nice motivational posters and stuff, but too bad the size is just too small)

Drinks: Lemon tea (my hubby), Coffee-O (my dad in law), Tea-C (my mom in law) and Milo (mine)
Presentation: 5/10 for all (typical kopitiam style serving)
Taste: 6/10 (for mine at least, the taste and sweetness just right)

Food: Kolo mee (my hubby and mom in law), wa tan ho (my dad in law) and fish ball tang hoon (glass noodle; mine)
Presentation: 7.5/10 for all (may look simple and clean, but it has an appetizing look that makes you just wanna sink your teeth into it)
Taste: I'm not sure how the others taste (my dad in law's wa tan ho looks amazingly delicious though) but mine I would give a 8/10. It's amazing that the taste is just so yummy, warm and just the right flavour that I can't stop stuffing myself. And best of all, it's the perfect food for me to eat without ending up throwing it up due to car sickness coz by the time we're on the road, it would've been digested already LOL

There, finally, the piece on Garden Cafe. But it will prolly be quite a long while before we can come back here again, maybe on our next trip to KK

Mochi Over the Moon! Frozen Yogurt

My hubby and I went out to do a little small shopping and lunch, and we decided to get a bit of dessert on another yogurt parlour, which is Mochi Over the Moon! Frozen Yogurt

Location: Airport Mall, Ground Floor

Setting: Typical yogurt store, though with a lot of green motif on it
Atmosphere: 6.5/10 (pretty steady patronage all around, including the super secluded indoor dining area
Design: 7/10 (pretty nice and homey, with a bit of minimalistic art in it)

Not a self-service kind of yogurt parlour like Tutti Frutti, and maybe coz I was too partial towards that yogurt parlour, I felt that this one was not as much in variety of toppings as the other, and somehow I wasn't too impressed with it. Though at least this one is charged per serving, not per weight, so not too much money needed to be spent

My hubby's yogurt is understandably filled to the brim with mochi, which is the tagline and running topping of this parlour. I wonder if my hubby knows that mochi is also called muachi by the Taiwanese, which is actually sorta like a direct pronunciation for mochi

This is my yogurt with toppings of Kit Kat and M&Ms, but unfortunately not exactly my kind of yogurt taste since it's too sour, and I don't think yogurt is supposed to taste THAT sour. There is a hint of sweetness there, but sadly the sour overpowered it, sorta

It's a recommendable place to go to have your health food, but I would still recommend Tutti Frutti over this one

Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt

After eating at Spaghetti Dom, naturally we'd head-hunt for dessert. And we didn't need to find it for too long as Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt was just around the corner

Location: Opposite Spaghetti Dom, City Square, Ground Floor

Setting: A rather colourful fruity theme and with tons of cool balloons colour-coded to match the name of the parlour
Atmosphere: 8.5/10 (a lot of patronage, since it's new and fresh to the locals)
Design: 8/10 (an eye candy and pretty colourful, but not too much to make your eyes crossed with all the colour bombardment)

This yogurt parlour differs from others as it is self-service. You pick the cup size you want, the flavour of yogurt that you want, and the 2 toppings you want for your yogurt. So many toppings to choose from, I almost couldn't decide

They charge you per 100g, and it's about $3.50 per 100g. Mine kinda exceeded a little by extra 70g, but it was pretty worth it

My buddy got himself vanilla flavoured yogurt, with jellos as toppings, and those are the ones giving him the killer weight. It tastes vanilla, with a sourish after-taste of yogurt in it, so it proves that it is yogurt and not just ice-cream

This is what I got, which was surprisingly called "Death by Chocolate" XD LOL. Now this one tastes more chocolate and not much yogurt-sour after taste, so I'd give it a 8.5/10, though a suspicion of it to be more ice-cream than yogurt is possible. We were joking that maybe there could be one or two which are actual yogurt and the rest are all ice-cream

Pretty good dessert that was quite satisfying. It maybe a little pricey, but it's worth it as you can choose how much you want, and how many toppings you want. You pay for what you get and want, basically, so pretty recommendable

Spaghetti Dom Bistro & Restaurant

We were scouring the Times Square area looking for something new and fresh to eat, somewhere we've never tried before. And that brought us to City Square, where there is an interesting fusion restaurant, called Spaghetti Dom Bistro & Restaurant

Location: Within City Square, down at Ground Floor

Setting: A bit of an underground warehouse or some sort of indoor construction site, with a weird piano there that prolly doesn't work (it's one of those old-school that used air to operated the piano, almost like an accordion-version of a piano). It's apparently a fusion restaurant, Italian fusion with local tastes, sounds pretty interesting
Atmosphere: 5.5/10 (patronage not so much, but it got a nice feel to it)
Design: 6/10 (it's kinda sad though that maybe they kinda spent most of their money on the decors like piano and tables and chairs that they don't have much to fix the rest LOL)

An interesting dress-up for the waitresses, like they're also in construction works or something

Drinks: Black coffee (my buddy) and cafe latte (mine)
Presentation: 7.5/10 on both (the cup looks pretty classy and huge, just like a bistro cafe cup)
Taste: I don't drink black coffee, but my cafe latte is actually quite nice, after a bit of sugar added, that is, so I'd give it 7/10

Food: Curry pasta (my buddy) and chicken and chips (mine)
Presentation: 8/10 and 7.5/10 respectively (pretty good presentation considering, and has a nice smell to it)
Taste: I've only tasted the sauce of the curry pasta, which I'd give about 5/10 coz it tastes more like some curry you'd eat from Maggi or something, but mine I'm giving it a 4.5/10, coz the taste of the chicken didn't taste like chicken, it tastes like some kind of seafood. No, seriously, the chicken tastes like seafood, and that is not what I want for a fried chicken to taste like

Overall, this restaurant does have potential, but it's prolly a little odd for the locals to accept local fusion to Western food, so it'll prolly take time to actually reach popularity or none at all
