Vanda Restaurant

I went for my BFF's son's 1-year-old birthday party down at Orchid Garden Hotel, and the buffet lunch venue was at Vanda Restaurant. Since I've never done a piece on it, I might as well get started.

Didn't manage to take pictures of the venue itself because we were a little rushing for time to get our seats and I had to keep watch over my little princess, but at least I took the food:

Main course section
Noodle section

Porridge and soup section

Dessert section

Fruit section
Overall the food is quite satisfying, although there are some dim sum which tastes suspiciously similar to each other, only the design and presentation is different, but the portion is pretty big, so that counters that. They prolly need a little more work on the dessert though, but other than that, it's satisfying at best.

Overall rating: 7/10

Chatterbox Kopitiam

My ex-vegan friend and her hubby were about to leave to return to Canada after their wedding reception, so last week (or was it the week before?) we had a get-together lunch at Chatterbox Kopitiam

Located within Gadong area, just near the Hua Ho superstore and near where Buffalo Steakhouse is

Le setting of the kopitiam, which I rate overall 5/10

Le menu, which they have two, no idea why

This is what we ordered:

Curry chicken with rice (I tried the curry, and it wasn't really as spicy as I would've hoped)

Curry with toast

Their signature dish: Ayam Lapan-Lapan, which is a fancy name for ayam penyet

Close up shot
The signature dish was pretty good, nice and fresh, and the chicken is tender and juicy, but I'd give kudos to the chilli sauce because it made me sweat and cry buckets. Chopped chilli is totally spicy as hell, either that or I prolly haven't really eaten spicy in a while

Overall rating: 7/10

Sorriso Reprise

My hubby and I decided to celebrate our 2nd year wedding anniversary (which we totally forgot about due to our new parenthood-ing) at Sorriso since it's a little closer to home where we can get to our little princess should the need arise (and we were in the mood to splurge). Just felt like doing a reprisal entry here

Newly made signboard
When we were the first time, my gal pal and I, it was still in the process of building and it was more like a soft opening, so the signboard was not there yet, and now, here it is

Our romantic candlelight dinner

The "specials" menu

These are the food that we ordered:

My watermelon juice (had 2 helpings of that)

My hubby's mocktail called Blue Skies or something

My hubby's chicken pesto

My cream of mushroom soup with the truffle special

Garlic bread to go with the soup

Caesar salad with a mix of garlic chicken and prawn (though we should've picked the prawn only instead)

My hubby's lamb shanks with special blackcurrant sauce

My salmon steak with special saffron sauce

My hubby's tiramisu, which this is the first time I've seen such a huge serving for a dessert

My chocolate-almond cake with vanilla ice cream (forgot what was the Italian name for it)

Overall, we had a smashing time and the food was very up to standards and you can really feel the richness and the flavourful-ness of the food, and it's quite filling and super satisfying, especially the dessert.

I know I've rated it before, but I'm gonna rate it again for an overall of 9.5/10

Emperor's Court Returns

A few weeks ago, I was invited to my ex-vegetarian friend's 2nd wedding reception (their first wedding reception was done at Canada, and her hubby is a pretty hunky Romanian guy, but that's another story), and it was held in Emperor's Court.

Technically I had wanted my wedding reception to be held there rather than the old school Orchid Garden Hotel, but now that I've seen the size of the restaurant and remembered the sheer amount of guests we had, I suppose it's fine that we didn't do it there.

The food looked pretty nice and delicious, so I decided to make a reprisal and share it:

Hot and cold dishes
Consists of crabstick rolls, baby octopuses, abalone, and some nice crispy fried seafood of sorts

Roasted chicken
Cooked in two different ways, and one of them that is literally covered in those fried shallots are actually a bit spicy
Fried fish Thai style
Nice, spicy and with a tang of raw mango, a delight to the tongue, and the fish is obviously fresh. If it weren't for a public function, I would've gobbled up the head too, but it wouldn't be too ladylike and I don't wanna be seen as a glutton
Scallops "Jazz" style
Not really sure what's so "jazz" about it, but it actually tastes pretty good, though I do taste a hint of mayonaisse in it. Maybe that's the "jazz" part
Sea cucumbers with broccoli and mushrooms
Not a fan of sea cucumbers, but I did eat the broccoli and the mushrooms though, and it's pretty fresh
Fried rice
Standard fried rice with mixed vegs in most typical Chinese weddings
Sweet soup with longan and white fungus
Nice and sweet, and the white fungus is pretty crunchy. Would've enjoyed it more if it were slightly chilly
Wedding cake
Cake is lovely and quite creamy, and comes along with the tang of fruit pieces inside it, complimenting the sweet, creamy taste very well

That's it for the reprisal so far. Hopefully might do another one again someday.
