Ching Nam Hong Restaurant

After a long day in the office, my best friend and I decided to have lunch. Technically I've already eaten (see LaMee Reprise), but since I'm hitching a ride with him and he has yet to eaten, I thought, oh well, what the hey. I needed some dessert anyways. So we stopped by at Ching Nam Hong Restaurant

This be the signboard of the restaurant. It's located just a little further away than Tasty Corner though it's still within the boundaries of the overhead road of Gadong and just next to Standard Chartered Bank of the main branch and the same block with Hua Ho

This be the interior of the restaurant. Nothing fancy, just like any other Chinese kopitiam restaurant, but there is a sort of isolated feel to it. Maybe it's because it's way down the road there and being quite hidden from view, or maybe it's just old

Well, I was right about the old part. This be the menu of the restaurant and according to the top, this restaurant has been established since 1952! Talk about the longest running restaurant! My best friend said this is one of those old restaurants that came from KB and claims that people who come from KB to do business in town tend to work out quite well. Judging by the date, and the fact that the restaurant is still standing, I'd attest to that

Wasn't feeling too hungry, and I wanted something less sweet, so I ordered warm barley drink, though they really went forth and made so non-sweet, like they skimmed on the sugar or something. Ah, well, it's fine, no big

My best friend ordered 100plus, as usual aside from his Kasturi ping. LOL

My best friend ordered wa tan ho, as usual, the most common yet tasty treat we Chinese love to eat. Looks yummy though, even though I didn't try it

I ordered French toast, since I'm stuffed as hell, but need a dessert to counter the saltiness of LaMee's food. It's an interesting make. It's basically fried with egg, but it's also spread with peanut butter. Now imagine bread with the combination of egg and peanut butter. Interesting taste, no? It's like I'm eating a breakfast combo in one or something, LOL. Though it's a little bit on the oily side

A quite recommendable place, though probably I need to actually eat a main course of food to actually make a proper judgment. Reprisal is possibly needed

LaMee Reprise

I did another reprisal for LaMee as we went to eat at the branch in Gadong. Technically it's not as good as the original branch in Serusop, but since we were nearby, we might as well go eat where we are

My friend ordered iced lemon tea. Standard issue, though I think the last time I ordered that from this branch, it was more towards sour than sweet

Decided to give it a shot and ordered Horlicks Godzilla instead of the usual Milo Godzilla. This turned out to be quite an interesting taste. A full powderful of Horlicks mixed with whipped cream and then smothered with the taste of the drink itself, I have to admit it tastes amazing

I ordered their in-house dish which is the seafood and egg special. Just as I expected, it was frickin' salty. Much saltier than it were for the original Serusop branch. But they cooked it pretty good and tangy, that I have to admit, and the egg was just how I liked it

My friend ordered LaMee with dumplings, one of my fav dishes in LaMee that I order from time to time. But in this Gadong branch case...maybe not

There you have it. A reprisal for LaMee. My opinion still stands that I still prefer to eat at the Serusop branch rather than this branch, since it's the original branch and tastes better, but it's no harm trying this branch, even though the quality is a little less

MyOwn Cafe Reprise

Today I'm doing another reprisal for MyOwn Cafe, since apparently after some minor renovations, they had a bit of name change of their restaurant.

Now, instead of being known as MyOwn Cafe, they're now known as De' Olde Cottage Restaurant & Cafe. Which is quite a fitting name for it because it really gives you that old-fashioned cottage feeling to it whenever you enter to have your meals. Though, as an artist, I have a bit of beef with the signboard, coz they're using Chiller font for their signboard, which is so not suitable since Chiller font is usually used for horror stuff

The "new and improved" menu of the restaurant. Nothing too big has changed, except the name of the restaurant on the front page of course. And apparently the Asian section of the menu has increased a little since the last time we were here when it was still MyOwn Cafe, but other than that, everything seems the same

Trigger-happy on a cabinet next to our table

My best friend ordered Lemon Tingle (I think that's what it's called), probably something equivalent to his favourite Kasturi ping or something. LOL! Him and his obsession with Kasturi ping never cease to amaze me XD

I ordered Hong Kong tea, which has a rather unique taste, sort of, though it tastes slightly a little bit like a bland version of teh tarik or something

Ordered their soup of the day, which is mushroom soup. Taste just as creamy and flavourful like the last time we ate

Bread and butter for starters/appetizers, though the butter must've been taken from the fridge because it was a little tough to spread

Instead of ordering my usual common fish and chips, I ordered a more higher class version of fish and chips which is called fish coup graz or something of that sense. Tastes pretty good, and I gotta admit, the fish felt fresher than the usual common fish. Either it was made from a different breed or it's just a psychological feeling

My best friend ordered lamb burger (I think) and it looks HUGE! Way huger than the McDonald burger that we usually eat. Apparently the bread itself is homemade, so it was custom-made to be that big and huge, and the meat and cheese looks scrumptious!

After much badgering from my best friend, our part-time colleague who joined us for lunch, who is also a family friend of my best friend that came along to help us with our company project, decided to try their signature club sandwich, since my best friend tried it and really pushed it to be highly recommended. I've tried it from my best friend the first time I came here and I definitely liked the homemade bread and pattie taste

Here ya go, a bit of a reprisal from me on MyOwn Cafe. Again, this is a very highly recommended place if you want to truly have a country cottage feel to it. Possible reprisal can be considered

Excellent Taste Sdn Bhd

Back again with more foodie entries for this month~!

For this entry, my friend and I had just got back from watching the pretty amazing animated movie "Megamind". We had to rush for a early screening because that is the only time where it didn't clash with my friend's working hour and also it is not 3D (because my brain doesn't register 3D very well), so we had a late lunch. At first we were planning to eat at Gadong Properties Food Court, but decided to give this, Excellent Taste Sdn Bhd, a shot.

This be the signboard and entrance of the restaurant. It's located at the same area next to Gadong Properties Sdn Bhd Food Court and apparently is one of those Philippines cuisine type of specialty restaurant. We've passed by a few times but never really thought of trying it, until now

This be the interior of the restaurant. Looks nice and quaint, just like any other small-time restaurant and/or cafe around the block. Though it kinda gives off the Chinese feeling more than a Philippines feeling to the atmosphere

Trigger-happy on the decors

This be my drink: Milo shake. Just felt like drinking something chocolatey despite the fact that it's below freezing within that restaurant. Damn you and your air-conditioning!

My friend ordered Coke, as usual. Let's hope he doesn't develop an addiction for it

I ordered sizzling noodle. Not sure whether it's Hong Kong or Philippines style, but it looks and tastes pretty good. The sauce is thick and flavourful, though there is really an entire abundance of mushrooms though, even though I ordered seafood. The noodle tastes suspiciously like those crispy noodles in terms of the texture once it's softened

My friend ordered steak rice or something like that, which is cooked Philippines style. Got a really nice smell, almost like teriyaki, and the meat is quite tender too after I tried it

There you have it, my two-cents on this restaurant. Not too bad. Worth a shot to visit, if you're into Philippines fusion cuisine and whatnot.
